ICDM BRINGS HOPE AFTER THE PASSAGE OF HURRICANE FIONA IN THE REPUBLIC DOMINICAN & HAITI.
The Situation Fiona, considered by many as the first hurricane to directly impact the Island since the hurricane Jeanne in 2004, left behind considerable damage in the two neighboring Republics. Especially in Dominican Republic, the rains, and winds brought by Fiona produced landslides, fallen bridges, road blockages, and power outages.
It is reported that twelve provinces in total have suffered the most damage because of the impact of Hurricane Fiona. The hurricane affected many homes, destroyed many others, killed people, and displaced over 12,000 people. In consequence, the government declared the provinces affected in a state of emergency. The damages in the affected sectors left 406,539 people without electricity and 1,174,637 without water. Humanitarian organizations reported that 1,176,032 people of whom 666,856 are children and adolescents are at risk. |
