ICDM: August Update

Dear friends of ICDM,
Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ!
I can tell by the extra traffic near our home that school has once again started up throughout most of Florida. No doubt each of you has a child, grandchild, niece or nephew who has experienced the excitement of a new school year. One of the great rituals of the beginning of a new school year is the adventure of school shopping for clothes and supplies. We almost take it for granted.
One place where the startup of school is not taken for granted is Haiti. An already-spotty public education system has only gotten worse due to the breakdown of many government services during the present crisis. The good news is that there are oases of hope in the midst of Haiti’s struggles and ICDM’s Henri Christophe School in Bayonnais is one of them. Since the beginning of Haiti’s gang-driven unrest, we have not missed one day of school. Even while Haiti’s present is in turmoil, we are helping to build its future. Our school now numbers nearly 900 children, grades K- Baccalaureate (year 13)
Thanks for helping her smile.
Taking pride in their accomplishments.
Remaining steadfast is not always easy and it is not cheap. Even though the gangs have not reached Bayonnais, their economic fallout has. Gas has gone from $8 a gallon to $13 a gallon. Rice has gone from $1.00 a pound to $1.50. The cost of medical supplies for our clinic has increased by nearly 40%.
Over the past 35 years, God has blessed ICDM by raising up faithful partners to help resource its ministries. As I have observed on many occasions: “Where God calls, he also guides and provides.” I am certain that as I lay our needs before Him and you, He will continue to provide through you.
As we head into a new school year, I would ask you to consider the following:
Sponsor a child’s education for $40 per month. This amount covers uniform, books, supplies, and the cost of instruction. You can find out how to do this at https://icdm.us/educate/sponsor/
Help feed our 800 + students a hot, nutritious lunch. The cost is $600 per day. Any portion of this would help immensely. Find out more at https://icdm.us/educate/feed-a-school/
Sponsor a classroom. The cost of doing so is 1,900.00 per month. This would be a great project for a Sunday School class or youth group.
Sponsor a teacher at $500.00 per month. This would be a great way to honor a teacher in your life.
Sponsor a nurse at $800.00 per month. Those of you from medical backgrounds know how important this is for the health of children and a community.
Give a general gift to help support our various community development programs.
I am going to ask you for one more thing. You already know the great impact ICDM is having in Haiti and the Dominican Republic, but your friends may not. Most of what people hear about Haiti is bad news. You have the opportunity to share some good news with them and invite them to be part of that news. Tell them about us and direct them to our website at https://icdm.us/.
Feeding is still important for growing minds.
The next generation of Haiti’s leaders.
Thank you once again for your faithfulness over the years. We could not have accomplished what we have without you. As we look forward to the opening of our 36th school year, I am confident that God will use us together to build the future of Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
