ICDM: October Update

Dear friends of ICDM,

During the month of October, ICDM will be celebrating its 35th birthday. Back when we started with a handful of elementary students under a mango tree, I knew God wanted to use us to change lives, but I never dreamed of how he would shape our ministries over the years.

During the last 35 years, God has:
  • Grown our school from a few neighborhood kids to a school of over 900 students in grades K-Baccalaureate (year 13).
  • Helped us establish a stand-alone medical clinic serving hundreds of people each year.
  • Provided the resources to serve thousands of meals to children and senior adults.
  • Allowed us to empower scores of families by providing micro-loans and business education so that they can work toward financial security.
  • Helped us build 10 homes in Haiti and the Dominican Republic to house needy families.
  • Given us the opportunity to train over 9000 church leaders through our Portable Bible Schools, Schools of Evangelism, and Leadership Conferences. They are now distributing hope in their own communities throughout Haiti and the Dominican Republic.
  • Guided us in building a first-rate campus for the housing of our various ministries.
  • Strengthened us to help make “Jesus way more famous” throughout the Island of Hispaniola.
It all began under a mango tree.
My, how we’ve grown!
How patients used to wait for clinic day.
Welcome to the new clinic!
Feeding one makes a difference.
Feeding many makes an impact.
From shelter…

To a home.
Releasing thousands of Christian workers…
To serve their communities.
A place for launching hope…
Throughout Haiti and the world.
All this has occurred in the face of significant challenges such as hurricanes, a major earthquake, and political unrest. At every step of the way God has upheld us in his hand when going forward seemed nearly impossible. And you, our friends have been our cheerleaders and support along the way. We could not have done it without God, and we could not have done it without you.

Sometime this month we will be holding 35th birthday celebrations in Bayonnais. We want you to be part of the celebrations by joining us via livestream. The exact date and time will be announced on our website and on Facebook. If you are not able to join us on the day, we will be posting the celebration on our YouTube channel. I pray that each one of you might be able to catch a glimpse of the excitement by tuning in.

Most birthdays involve gifts and originally, I was going to share our wish list with you in this letter. However, I am sensitive to the fact that many of you are in the throes of recovering from Hurricane Helene or you know people who are. I know what it is like to endure   disasters in Haiti and recovery requires a lot of focus and energy. Please know I am joining you in prayer for the victims of this great storm.

I will return to the topic of birthday gifts for ICDM at a later time. When I do I want you to know they will be used to undergird our ministries for the future, for we are not going anywhere. We will continue to distribute hope throughout Haiti and the Dominican Republic no matter what. Even during these tense times in Haiti which you have probably read about, we have not missed a day of school, or closed our clinic, or slackened in our vision to help church leaders impact their communities. We believe this is God’s work and I ask you to continue joining us in it.

As I reflect on all that God has done during the past 35 years, many faces come to mind. I see a young Haitian boy who has grown into the headmaster of our school. I see the faces of people who lost loved ones in the earthquake finding comfort. I see the faces of our American partners whom I have had the chance to meet and watched as God stirred up your passion to help people. In the end, we are in the people business and God has allowed me to meet some amazing people in Haiti, in the Dominican Republic, and throughout the US. I am a blessed man indeed.

Thank you for your partnership and thank you for helping us celebrate.

Your brother in Christ,

Yvan Pierre
