Our Foundation

Who We Are

The Jesus Difference

For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.

(1 Corinthians 3:11, NIV)

Everything ICDM is built on Jesus Christ. From the very beginning of the story when Yvan Pierre’s grandparents accepted Christ until now, the ICDM story has been infused with the grace of Jesus Christ. He has “opened doors no one can shut” (Rev. 3:7). Time and again, we have seen Jesus multiply resources, connect us with the right people, and do the impossible through us. We humbly recognize that without Him we are not enough.

Even though we spend a lot of time and energy trying to improve the earthly life of Haitians and Dominicans, we realize that if we are not preparing them for eternity, our work will not last. That is why we are committed to evangelism (sharing the Good News about Jesus) as well as social development. That is why we train pastors to feed people’s souls as well as their bodies.

Many organizations are trying to do good for the people of Haiti. We are committed to doing the best, which means helping them find the tools to have a better life on earth and a great one in eternity.

Our Method: Educate, Equip, Empower:

Our method comes directly from Jesus Himself. While on earth he taught people (educate), gave them tools and training (equip), and then set them free to serve others (empower). We believe this trifold method of educating, equipping, and empowering recognizes the inherent worth of every human being and gives them what they need to lead a productive healthy life on earth as well as prepare for eternity. While some of our programs fall under different headings of educate, equip, and empower, you will find this methodology infused into almost every aspect of all that we do. In following this method we are preparing individuals for life and building the futures of Haiti and the Dominican Republic, and it all comes back to a method Jesus used to help his disciples change their world.

Our Statement of Faith

We Believe:

  • There is only one God. He exists eternally in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. He is holy and just, loving and merciful, all-knowing, all-powerful, sovereign and everywhere present at all times. He desires to be known by man.

  • Jesus Christ is true God and true Man, and is God’s provision for the salvation of all people. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, died on the Cross as atonement for the sins of the world, rose from the dead on the third day, and showed himself alive to many witnesses. He ascended into Heaven, where He now sits at the right hand of the Father as our great High Priest. He will come again to receive all who believe in Him and to establish His Kingdom of righteousness and peace.

  • The Holy Spirit is a divine person who convicts unbelievers of their sin and lack of righteousness. He calls them to a relationship with Jesus our Savior and upon acceptance indwells them. He lives in all true believers to guide and empower them to live holy lives.

  • The Holy Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is God’s revelation of truth and salvation for all people. It is inerrant as originally given, and is the Christian’s reliable guide for holy living.

  • Human beings are created in the image and likeness of God. Sin and death entered the human race through disobedience. All people are born with a sin nature, which separates them from God, but through the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus, all who believe are saved from eternal death and punishment.

  • The Church is composed of all who truly believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and are born again of the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ, the head of the Church, has commissioned his followers to go into all the world as his witnesses to make disciples by preaching the Gospel to all people, teaching them to obey his commands, and baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

  • We are living in the last days and time is of the essence. We are to spread God’s Word, to be prepared in season and out of season, and to correct, rebuke and encourage with great patience and careful instruction.

  • Jesus Christ will return to earth in power and glory, and will resurrect all who have died: the righteous to eternal life in heaven and the unrighteous to eternal judgment.

  • Jesus commands us as his representatives on earth to feed the hungry, give water to the thirsty, provide clothing and shelter to the destitute, and minister to those who are sick and in prison, for in so doing we are ministering to Jesus himself.
